Arthritis workshops to "challenge pain"

Arthritis workshops to "challenge pain"

Primary care trusts could commission new Challenging Pain workshops launched by the charity Arthritis Care to help patients manage their condition.

As part of the 12 – 18 Arthritis Care Awareness Week, the workshops will give patients the opportunity to learn new skill and techniques that could combat their arthritis symptoms.

Arthritis Head of Training Rachel Gondwe said: "The course was developed and piloted in collaboration with pain management specialists, and it's designed to complement not replace the care people receive from health professionals."

The courses will be available across the UK and are free for patients to take part.

Rachel Gondwe added: "Pain is sometimes the 'silent epidemic'. It's the main reason why people visit their GP – and arthritis is its most frequent cause.

"With pain being the number one reason why people call the Arthritis Care helpline, we decided to create a specific 'Challenging Pain' workshop."
