A dentist's surgery has opened at the first in-store supermarket "polyclinic" in north Manchester offering patients access to dental treatments as well as a GP, pharmacist and podiatrist.
The portfolio of private and NHS healthcare facilities will be available at Sainsbury's in Heaton Park in response to the huge success of Sainsbury's first dental service, which opened last September.
Up to 3,500 patients registered with the dentist when it opened in Sale, south Manchester, and it is hoped this new service in Heaton Peak will prove just as successful.
The service, which is operated by Dr Lance Knight, aims to accommodate 12,000 patients each year in four consultation rooms providing a variety of treatments seven days a week including check-ups, crowns and implants.
The on-site doctor's surgery has been open since March last year and has already completed more than 1,500 consultations for NHS patients, who also have access to two pharmacists and a podiatrist, who runs four clinics a week.
Graham Stringer, MP for Manchester Blackley, said "The opening of the dental surgery is great news for the people of North Manchester. The success of the doctors based in the store has shown that there is a real need for easy access health facilities."
