Breast awareness is an important part of every woman's health routine. It's about feeling empowered to be more aware of any changes in the breasts. Breastlight is designed to increase confidence and encourage breast awareness

By getting to know how your breasts look and feel at different times, you have a better understanding of what is normal for you and can more easily recognise any changes that may need a follow up.

Recent research by PWB Health showed that 90% of women claim to "check" their breasts, with one in three performing a monthly routine. However, the majority of women (55%) admit to being unsure of what they are looking or feeling for as far as breast awareness is concerned.(1)

Enlightened breast awareness at home
Breastlight is a new breast health product for use at home in addition to your breast awareness routine. It is safe and easy to use, and enables you to get a new view of your breasts, which will help you spot any changes over time.

It works by shining a powerful red light through the breast tissue so that you can "see inside". You'll notice veins and other blood vessels, which are totally normal. If you see dark spots or shadows, it's possible that these are abnormalities that should be checked out. Breastlight enables you to know what's normal for you, and hopefully feel more confident that you're looking after your body, as you'd like.

Breastlight has undergone extensive testing in well woman clinics and by women at home. In research studies women who used Breastlight generally felt more confident about their breast health. Furthermore 60% of the women who examined their breasts less than once a month, claimed they would do so more frequently if they used Breastlight as an aid to their breast awareness.(2)

Breastlight can be used by women of all ages, and is particularly useful for menopausal and postmenopausal women, or those with fibrous breasts. Breastlight should be used as an additional part of a normal breast awareness routine and is not a substitute for mammogram screening.

Availability
It is planned to make Breastlight widely available to the public in the UK later this year. Before that the manufacturers would like as much feedback as possible from women who have tried the product in their homes, so are looking for volunteers to join their user group.

As a nurse if you sign up to answer a few simple questions, you'll receive a Breastlight at a special trial rate of £39 (normal price will be £79) + p&p.

If you are interested in trialling the product among your patients, contact Breastlight via the website www.breastlight.co.uk

Delegates at the NiP Event in London in September can visit Breastlight at stand 44 for more information and a product demonstration.
