Inquiry into care home incident

Inquiry into care home incident

A mental health nurse at a Dundee care home has been accused of misconduct after a resident was allegedly found locked in a storage cupboard.

Malcolm Logie is accused of failing to inform or take steps to inform the manager of Ballumbie Court Care Home in Dundee about the incident.

Ballumbie Court is run by Southern Cross Healthcare, which is being wound down following financial difficulties.

Mr Logie, a mental health nurse, was working the night shift in 2009 when the resident was allegedly found on the floor, locked in the storage room.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has charged him with failing to take "appropriate follow-up action".

He is accused of failing to document the incident in report form and a logbook, and failing to take reasonable steps to ensure that next of kin were informed of the incident as required by Southern Cross Healthcare policy.
