NHS launches mental health work bid

Doncaster NHS Trust has launched an ambitious programme to get more people with mental health problems into the workforce.

Financed by the Big Lottery Fund, Better Workplace, Better Mental Health cooperates with business leaders and GPs to improve emotional well-being by encouraging people with stress, anxiety and depression to talk about their problems and give work a chance.

NHS bosses say the three-year scheme is good for those with mental health problems, helping build their confidence and sense of self-worth, and for local businesses, where they hope it can reduce staff turnover and improve the standing of participating companies.

The service also offers guidance on training for mental health awareness and help with return to work plans for absent employees.
