Breast cancer in women over 70 will be the focus of Public Health England’s next cancer campaign.
To start in February 2014, the campaign will feature TV ads to reinforce the message that a third of women who get breast cancer are over 70.
Two regional campaigns on ovarian cancer and oesophago-gastric cancer will also begin in February.
A letter to healthcare professionals from the government said: “There is considerable evidence that many older women are not aware of their increased risk of breast cancer, often incorrectly thinking that if they are not routinely invited for screening any more then they are cannot be at risk of cancer.
“Briefing sheets for healthcare professionals and others, as well as campaign materials, will be developed to support the preparation and delivery of the campaigns.”
The letter drafted by NHS England, the Department of Health and Public Health England is available to view online.
