Tackling scarring and stretch marks

Tackling scarring and stretch marks

Although scarring and stretch marks are natural parts of the healing process and growth and weight loss respectively, many patients view them as unsightly and unwanted. Although the skin affected will go through numerous changes as it matures, it often never attains the appearance of the surrounding skin. Therefore, it is not surprising that patients often seek help from a health professional as to how to prevent or reduce the impact of scars and stretch marks.

Bio-Oil® has been clinically shown to help improve the appearance of skin through the reduction of redness, width and height of scars and stretch marks.1 Its unique formulation contains the ingredient PurCellin Oil™, which reduces the consistency of Bio-Oil, making it a rapidly absorbed “dry” oil.
This helps increase skin elasticity, thereby helping to reduce the impact of scars and striae, and also making it highly effective for other skin concerns such as uneven skin tone.

Since its launch Bio-Oil has become a household name, trusted by millions of people across the world. Bio-Oil is also well regarded by nurses and midwives as a product that can help improve the types of skin conditions commonly seen with their patients.

What conditions can Bio-Oil help?
Bio-Oil has been clinically proven to benefit patients with:1

  • Scarring: Improves appearance of new and old scars caused by trauma, surgery, burns, insect bites, scratches and chickenpox. It is also highly effective in helping to maintain elasticity of scar tissue on joints and other high-mobility areas.
  • Stretch marks: Helps prevent formation of stretch marks during pregnancy and periods of rapid weight gain or loss and growth and helps to improve the appearance of existing stretch marks.
  • Uneven skin tone: Helps improve appearance of uneven skin tone caused by hormonal fluctuations, skin lighteners or excessive sun exposure.

What people think of Bio Oil
“After my husband’s head and neck surgery I sought out products that would help to improve the appearance of scarring during healing. We applied Bio-Oil to his scars twice a day and it quickly reduced the redness, evened out the skin texture on the scars and helped them fade. I’ve been so impressed by the difference that I now recommend it to any of my patients who are concerned about scarring after caesarean section.” - Charlotte Mayou, Senior Midwife

“After needing three stitches above the eyebrow, I was concerned I would get a nasty scar, especially as the area had become very red. Thankfully, using Bio-Oil twice a day quickly reduced the redness, evened out the skin texture on the scar and helped it fade faster. I have been so impressed by the difference that I now recommend it to my patients, particularly those with persistent scarring.” - Practice nurse

“Bio-Oil has improved the appearance of different types of scars in a number of my patients, including impressive healing effects on raised keloid scars. In my experience, the overall benefits of Bio-Oil go beyond the physical, as improvements to unsightly scars have led in several cases to a significant boost to patients’ psychological wellbeing.” - Specialist mental health nurse in prisons service
