TV doctor to talk at diabetes event

TV doctor Sarah Jarvis will be among the guest speakers at an event in North Wales next month aimed at updating GPs and nurses about the latest developments in relation to diabetes in the country.

Dr Jarvis, the resident GP on BBC's The One Show and ITV1's Daybreak, will feature alongside a number of experts on the condition at the Diabetes UK Cymru event at St George's Hotel on the Promenade, Llandudno on March 9.

As well as being a GP trainer who specialised in diabetes, Dr Jarvis is also one of the authors of Diabetes for Dummies. She will talk about the optimal management of diabetes patients in primary care.

A number of other prominent names in the diabetes field will also speak at the event including Prof John Cockcroft, Professor of Cardiology at the Wales Heart Research Institute in Cardiff, who will be giving vascular risk screening demonstrations.

Dr Graham Thomas, the Lead GP at the North Wales Cardiac Network, and Diabetes UK Cymru's National Director Dai Williams will also be speaking at the event.

Mr Williams said: "The evening is an opportunity for GPs and practice nurses in North Wales to get a full picture of diabetes in Wales, current research into the condition here and ways to help manage patients with diabetes."
