Advertised nursing salaries drop by 10% in a year

Nurses salaries have plunged by more than 10% since this time last year, according to a leading job search website.

Adzuna looked at the advertised salaries for nursing vacancies and found that they have dropped by 10.4% since this time last year.

This comes after Nursing in Practicewas told that nurses are increasingly using food banks and payday lenders due to years of public sector pay restraint, Janet Davies, the new general secretary and chief executive of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) said.

However, the number of advertised vacancies for healthcare and nursing jobs rose by 51% year-on-year, currently standing at 129,431 vacancies.

The Health Market Report collects the details of every job vacancy advertised online in the UK from more than 500 sources, which is checked, and used by government to keep track of economic growth.

The healthcare sector is the third worst for salary decline, according to the website. This is after the energy, oil and gas sector, where salaries decreased by 12% year-on-year, and legal jobs, which faced an 11% pay decline according to the posted vacancies.

“It’s been a year of declining advertised salaries across the board in 2015,” the report said, and across all sectors London and Scotland have seen the worst falls in advertised pay, seeing a 6.4% and 6.2% fall to the average job salary.
