Menopause

Menopause is usually a significant part of every woman’s life, and menopausal symptoms are often troublesome enough to warrant treatment. Primary care nurses have an important role to play in educating and supporting women in the management options available for the menopause, and, where appropriate, in ensuring compliance with hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Cervical screening

Every year about four million women are screened for cervical cancer, and there are about 3,000 new cases of diagnosed each year in England and Wales. Therefore, carrying out cervical screening is a vital part of the practice nurse’s work. There are many factors that can influence women's anxiety about undergoing a smear test, and practice nurses are in a key position to ensure that these fears and misapprehensions are reduced.
