Compression therapy

Practitioner knowledge about application or the underlying principles of compression therapy, such as how the therapy aids healing and how therapeutic levels of pressure can be achieved, are vital in terms of helping patients to persevere with this treatment. Only with knowledge and insight can workable, practical solutions be achieved.

Leg ulcers

There are many potential causes of leg ulcers, of which chronic venous hypertension and peripheral arterial occlusive disease, or a combination of the two, are the most common. Many patients have leg ulcers with multiple causative diseases or factors that can delay healing and nurses should undertake a differential diagnosis. The use of a structured leg ulcer assessment tool that incorporates particular elements ensures best practice, and the likelihood of treatment being clinically and cost-effective.
