Nursing in Practice is hosting a free to access two-day virtual event today and tomorrow (25 and 26 May), bringing updates and insight on immunisation, cardiovascular disease and respiratory care.
Both programmes, which are the first in a series of virtual events across 2022, are chaired by advanced nurse practitioner, independent prescriber and Nursing in Practice advisory board member, Helen Lewis.

The programme today (25 May), which nurses can still sign up to, looks at key aspects of immunisation, vaccination and cardiovascular disease.
Highlights include Michaela Nuttall, clinical advisor for CVD prevention at the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID), who will remind attendees that not all chest pain relates to ‘pains in the chest’.
Meanwhile, Clare Henderson, travel nurse specialist from Glasgow, will ask what travellers during the Covid-19 pandemic need to know. She will give an overview of preparation before travel, strategies for minimising risk during travel and things to look out for when back at home.
Dr George Kassianos and clinical nurse specialist Yvonne Gibney will speak about the GP contract and vaccinations and immunisations, while Kevin McGibbon, AF clinical nurse specialist, will discuss the diagnosis and management of atrial fibrillation.

The closing session of the day is a discussion about learnings for general practice from Covid-19 vaccination.
Day two of the programme will cover aspects of respiratory care.
The opening session of a busy day, accessed virtually, will see Carol Stonham, senior nurse practitioner, respiratory, discuss delivering greener respiratory healthcare.

Other key presentations for the day include hot topics in asthma management, such as guidelines and inhaler technique, patient pathways for sleep apnoea, and maintenance and reliever (MART) therapy.
