A group of Royal College of Nursing members have called for a vote of no confidence in the union’s leadership.
An online petition, created by RCN members on social media, has requested an emergency general meeting to ‘discuss the communication and our confidence in the process’ regarding the way the consultation for the NHS pay deal was handled.

They have also called for a vote of no confidence in the current leadership of the RCN, and asked that they stand down.
It follows fury from members after it was revealed that nurses would not receive the full pay uplift in their July pay packets. Instead, the rise would be split, with most coming on the date of their increment.

The online petition states: ‘As members we feel misled. It has come to our attention after the vote closed that those not at the top of their pay band will get on average 1.5% until their incremental date.
‘Furthermore, for years two and three of the deal, funding will not come from the Treasury as was first stated during the RCN consultation.’
RCN chief executive Janet Davies yesterday issued a personal apology to members, and said that the council and trade union committee would meet over the next few days.
