Prostate Cancer UK has launched free online courses and webinars to equip nurses who want to better understand prostate cancer but are short on time.

“Prostate cancer is set to become the most common cancer overall by 2030, but a lack of opportunity for further education and training combined with an ageing workforce, means that patients are potentially facing a future without the specialist expertise needed to treat them,” Gemma Borwick, education manager at Prostate Cancer UK warned.
Heavy workloads, limited funding and a lack of study leave have kept nurses from furthering their knowledge in this area, but the e-learning is designed to equip them with the necessary tools and information they need to expand their expertise, the charity said.

One-in-eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, according to Cancer Research UK, and in 2013 there were around 47,300 new cases of prostate cancer in the UK in 2013, that’s 130 cases diagnosed every day.
Borwick added that the courses “are a step in the right direction to not only meeting the educational needs of the health professional community, but also ensuring that men with prostate cancer receive the best possible care and support”.
