Blog: Guy Tucker - the new lifestyle expert blogger for Nursing in Practice

Hello my name is Guy Tucker, my specialist areas are community nursing, long term health conditions, physical assessment skills, audit, tissue viability/wound management, mnemonics and workplace coaching. I hold a MSc in Long Term Health Conditions, graduating from Teesside University. My current job role is senior lecturer/programme leader in District Nursing at Northumbria University.

I started my nursing career 2003 working in Accident and Emergency, after qualifying as an adult nurse. From here I worked in the primary care setting as a seconded audit officer. This enabled me to analyse health data trends.  I have also been a District Nurse/ Charge Nurse, responsible for a large caseload of patients. My passion is supporting patients in the community environment and within this setting I have also worked as a Community Matron with patients who have long-term health conditions. Supportive elements of practice also extended into education. I have worked at Teesside University as a senior lecturer teaching on community nursing modules, Northumbria in pre-registration nursing and now in CPD as a programme lead for district nursing.

I am a fellow of the Queen`s Nursing Institute (QNI), Queen`s Nurse, Association of District Nurse Educators at the Nursing and Midwifery Council. As a fellow of the QNI I have strong connections with the institute.

Now with 12 years experience I have become the blog expert for Nursing in Practice's Lifestyle resource section.

My future blogs plan to focus on e-cigarettes, exercise for older people, influenza vaccines and preparing for winter, obesity/ supersize culture, hidden calories in the wood we eat and binge drinking culture.
