Choking babies campaign launched.

Nurses are being urged to make parents aware of how to treat choking babies by a leading first aid charity.

St John's Ambulance have launched a campaign to ensure parents know how to treat choking follow research showing that although 40% of parents had witnessed choking in their own baby, 80% of them did not know what to do.

The Chokeables campaign includes a short animated film voiced by celebrities including David Walliams and John Hurt.

Backed by the British Safety Council, the campaign also contains a first aid guide

British Safety Council chief executive Neal Stone said: “Unfortunately, babies will pick up things like pen tops and swallow them and get into trouble.

“Taking immediate action to stop choking is critical and the campaign describes simple procedures about what to do and how to act quickly.

“With celebrities like John Hurt and David Walliams involved, I hope the campaign catches the public's imagination and that more people learn these life saving first aid skills.”
