NiP London: a resounding success for all...

On 21 September NiP came to the Business Design Centre for the London event, and a great day was had by all ...

The programme in London this year featured a variety of knowledgeable speakers on topics including contraception, wound care, obesity and asthma.

Dame Christine Beasley, Chief Nursing Officer, kickstarted the day with a great keynote speech about the future challenges faced by primary care nurses with the publication of the new government's white paper. The talk touched on the importance of community and practice nurses, and how the profession will cope with an uncertain future.

A selection of great presentations followed throughout the day, with 5 streams for the first time at a London event. These included talks by speakers at the height of their profession. Carolyn Driver looked at antimalarial drugs and gave an enlightening talk about the way in which they work and how they should be prescribed.

Sue Ashmore shared her views on the benefits of breastfeeding and the ways in which primary care settings can undertake training to become baby friendly, as part of the WHO/UNICEF's Baby Friendly initiative.

An update in long-acting reversible contraception by Shelley Mehigan provided an overview of LARC, and an update on LARC methods and appropriate prescribing, while Dr Hilary Jones of GMTV/Daybreak fame addressed a packed audience and outlined the low-calorie diet, which induces ketosis in the body in overweight patients.

Selected presentations from the day will be available on the website soon.

If you attended the London event, we would love to hear your thoughts and reflections on the day, so please share them with us!

I think this may open the floodgates" - Cynthia Fox, Slough
