Nurse in court over Stepping Hill

A nurse is to appear in court via videolink over alleged contamination of medical products after the deaths of hospital patients in Stockport.

Rebecca Leighton is charged with three counts of criminal damage with intent to endanger life and three counts of criminal damage being reckless as to whether life was being endangered.

The 27-year-old from Stockport, Greater Manchester, is alleged to have tampered with saline ampoules, saline bags and medical products at Stepping Hill Hospital.

Magistrates in Manchester remanded her in custody on 23 July after police investigating the patients' deaths arrested her.

The Stepping Hill employee, of Buxton Road, Heaviley, is also charged with theft of medicine.

She will appear at Manchester Crown Court on Monday via videolink for a preliminary hearing.
