The Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) is offering funding to nurses – including those working in general practice – who have ‘innovative ideas’ for projects to improve diabetes care.
The QNI is funding seven diabetes projects in 2024, having received a grant from The Burdett Trust for Nursing.
Applications are open to nurses working in any community setting, including primary care and social care.
The scheme is not limited to NHS organisations, and nurses working for GP practices, charities and community interest companies are eligible, although private and for-profit companies are excluded.
Each of the seven successful applicants will receive up to £5,000 and support from the QNI, including a year of project management support, regular online meetings and a site visit to the project.
The deadline for completed applications is 31 October and successful projects will commence in spring 2024.
A QNI spokesperson said: ‘The learning and development gained in the supportive environment of a QNI innovation programme enables nurses to reach their potential and inspire them to take their career to the next level.
‘They also bring an enhanced profile and wider recognition to the services they work for.’
The QNI has funded a range of community nursing projects since 1990. Previous projects have covered specialisms including dementia, mental health, leg ulcers, cardiac rehabilitation, hepatitis B and palliative care.
