Applications are open for a Queen’s Nursing (QNI) Institute’s award for children’s nursing that honours the late former Deputy Chief Nursing Officer and QNI Fellow, Dame Elizabeth Fradd.
The £100 prize is open to ‘outstanding students’ of the Community Children’s Nursing (CCN) Specialist Practice Qualification at universities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

All such universities are invited to nominate a CCN student who has ‘demonstrated the most outstanding achievement’ during their studies.
Applications should be submitted at least two months before the candidate’s graduation.
Dame Elizabeth passed away on 12 May this year, having previously worked across children’s nursing, midwifery and health visiting.

Dr Crystal Oldman CBE, chief executive of the Queen’s Nursing Institute, said: ‘Dame Elizabeth Fradd made a huge contribution to nursing, and particularly the nursing of children, over many years.
‘She had an enormous impact on the lives of children and their families, and also on the many health and social care professionals she worked with.

‘As a Fellow of the QNI, we felt that it was fitting to create a tribute to her in this new Award that celebrates the achievements of community children’s nurses as they graduate as specialist practitioners in the field. In this way the QNI will continue to raise the profile of community children’s nurses in the same way that Dame Elizabeth herself did.’
