Community nurse shares post-pandemic experiences in new memoir
George Horner

A community nurse has published a new memoir reflecting on the continued challenges and realities of providing home-based care in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

George Horner, a wound care specialist working in Hampshire, has released Beyond the Eye of the Storm, which draws on his diary entries from 2021 to 2023.

The book documents his daily rounds as part of an NHS community nursing team, offering personal accounts of caring for patients at home.

Mr Horner’s writing explores the emotional and practical aspects of community nursing, with stories and reflections intended to highlight the complexity of supporting people with a wide range of health and social needs outside hospital settings.

The book is a follow-up to Hidden Heroes of Our Community, which captured Mr Horner’s experiences during the early stages of the pandemic.

In the latest memoir, he aims to give a more in-depth view of the realities facing nurses beyond the initial crisis.

Mr Horner, who achieved his post-graduate degree in nursing from the University of Southampton, said he was inspired by the work of other healthcare writers including Mark Manson, Adam Kay and Christie Watson.

Beyond the Eye of the Storm is available in paperback and e-book formats.
