Royal College of Nursing members in Scotland have voted to accept the government’s 8% NHS pay offer for 2025/26 and 2026/27.

Overall, 60% of RCN Scotland members voted to accept the offer, with a significant minority rejecting the offer in a show of continued frustration about nursing workforce crisis in Scotland’s NHS.

The union expects the pay increase will be applied to June salaries, with the backdated pay (up to 1 April 2025) to be paid in July.

The vote followed a consultation period from 23 April to 14 May of this year.

While the RCN and Royal College of Midwives did not give a recommendation on how its members should vote, Unison had urged its members to accept the deal.

RCN Scotland Board will be reporting the result to the meeting of the joint trade unions tomorrow.

The results will be reported to the Scottish government and NHS employers following this.

Colin Poolman, RCN Scotland director, said current wages do not reflect the safety critical role of nurses working across the NHS and social care.

‘We will continue to lobby the Scottish government hard on reforming the Agenda for Change pay scheme and implementing the recommendations of the Agenda for Change review,’ he said.
