Charity campaign hopes to boost nurses’ morale

Healthcare workers’ charity Cavell is running a campaign throughout May in support of nurses and midwives.

The #ShowYouCare campaign is designed to celebrate International Nurses Day on 12 May and the Day of the Midwife which took place over the weekend.

Nursing and midwifery staff are being encouraged to follow the hashtag #ShowYouCare on social media to view ‘positive, thankful and appreciative’ messages to boost their morale.

Cavell – which supports UK nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants, working and retired – is in turn urging social media users to follow the campaign online and share with friends and families.

In addition, the charity – which provides assistance for those suffering personal or financial hardship – is collecting donations to fund its ongoing work.

Lewis Allett, chief executive at Cavell, said: ‘Everyone needs to feel valued in their role, and nursing and midwifery staff are no different.’

‘From the beginning to the end of our lives, nurses, midwives and healthcare assistants are there for us, so we all have a reason to be thankful for them. However, people often forget that they need help too.’

According to Mr Allett, Cavell supported 1,400 people and their families last year.

‘Our support team is busier than ever, with 80% of those receiving help being working nursing and midwifery staff,’ he said.

‘The #ShowYouCare campaign encourages everyone to share why they want to say thank you and let nursing and midwifery staff know they are appreciated more than they realise,’ Mr Cavell added.

Meanwhile, nationwide parkrun events held this month are also set to celebrate nurses to mark International Nurses Day.
