Community nurses recognised alongside former CNO in New Year’s honours list

Former chief nursing officer for England Professor Jane Cummings has been awarded a CBE on the Queen’s New Year’s honours list for 2019.

She is one of more than 15 nurses recognised for their work, some of whom are community nurses or health visitors.

Community nurse at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Maureen Horton was awarded an MBE for services to nursing and the NHS, alongside health visitors Ruth Oshikanlu and Gail Powell.

Learning disability nurse Rebecca Chester received her MBE for services to people with learning disabilities, while former community nurse Imelda McGucken and director of the CHARIS cancer centre in Northern Ireland was awarded her MBE for services to nursing and palliative care in the country.

Other nurses honoured include Margaret Kitching and Wendy Nicholson, who is the national lead nurse at Public Health England for children, young people and families.
