The International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the National League for Nursing (NLN) are launching a new global education advisory committee that will focus on prioritising investment in nursing education.
The new body, called the ICN Education Experts Advisory Committee (ICNEE), will aim to optimise ICN’s role in disseminating best practices in nursing education around the world.
It will also look to shape thinking around the forthcoming World health Organization (WHO) State of the World’s Nurses report, with a focus on ensuring that it includes ‘careful analysis’ of the adequacy and impact of educational programmes for the future nursing workforce.
The ICNEE will have 14 members from all WHO regions, appointed on the recommendations of the ICN.
The committee will be hosted by the NLN’s Institute for Diversity and Global Initiatives and chaired by Dr Sandra Davis, deputy director for the NLN and Walden University School of Nursing Institute for Social Determinants of Health and Social Change.
Dr Pamela Cipriano, ICN president, said the ICNEE would maximise the impact of ICN and NLN’s educational activities and initiatives.
‘I look forward to working with the committee once it is set up, and I am sure it will make an important contribution to our goals of improving nursing education and recruiting many more nurse educators, who are so vital in this endeavour,’ she added.
