NHS England’s director of nursing Hilary Garratt has been awarded a CBE in the 2018 New Year’s Honours list.
Ms Garratt, who is also deputy chief nursing officer for England, was given the award for her services to nursing and the safeguarding of vulnerable people.
She heads a list of nursing-related honours, which also features former chief executive of the Royal College of Midwives, Catherine Warwick, who has been made a dame for services to midwifery.
Ms Garratt described the award as a ‘tribute to the many individuals and organisations that are involved in our safeguarding work’.
She said: ‘I am passionate about bringing people and organisations together to protect vulnerable children and adults and it’s been a privilege to work closely with a range of inspiring people, including those with a lived experience of these issues.’
