NMC shares stories and resources via new ‘good leadership’ campaign

A new campaign launched by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) aims to support nursing leaders in meeting professional standards.

As part of its ‘Good leadership means better care’ campaign, the regulator is sharing stories and resources designed to promote best practice among nurses, midwives and nursing associates in leadership positions.
Martyn Davey, one of the first wave of trainee nursing associates who now works in general practice, is featured as the subject of one of the campaign’s stories.
‘Good leaders recognise it’s important to support everyone and help when needed,’ Mr Davey said. ‘Enabling others is the most important part, it’s what nursing is all about.’

The campaign’s resources are based around the following areas:
- Accountability
- Delegation
- Inclusive working and learning environments
- Leadership at busy and difficult times
- Listening and advocating for people you care for
- Speaking up
- Supporting students and people to the new workforce
Sam Foster, NMC executive director of professional practice, said: ‘Through a series of engaging resources and case studies, we aim to positively influence the role of nursing and midwifery leaders as they support their teams to practise in line with our code and professional standards.
