Nursing in Practice is today launching a campaign – Ninja Nurses during Covid-19 – to celebrate the amazing work of practice and community nurses, and midwives, during the global pandemic.
The Ninja Nurses campaign, originally run in 2018 with the New NHS Alliance, is being relaunched to highlight the remarkable work done by these healthcare staff during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It also aims to celebrate the work of practice and community nurses, and midwives, at a time when events to mark the World Health Organization’s International Year of the Nurse and Midwife have been put on hold.
The campaign is rooted in the ethos of the teenage superhero Ninja Turtles – New York City’s ‘Hidden Warriors’ that battled for truth and justice – by shining a light on the overlooked work of primary and community care nurses, and midwives, during Covid-19.

New NHS Alliance is again partnering with Nursing in Practice on the campaign. The organisation’s chief executive and chair, Merron Simpson and Dr Brian Fisher, explained in a blog: ‘Two years on, and the concept of nurse ‘Hidden Warriors’ has never been more relevant.’
The campaign features a running list of inspiring work spotted on social media, as well as Q&As with and blogs from Ninja Nurses.
It also urges nurses and midwives to nominate themselves or someone they know to be featured by emailing [email protected] or [email protected] with the subject ‘Ninja Nurse’.
