Nursing shortlist announced for the General Practice Awards
The finalists have been announced for the Nurse and Nursing Team of the Year category in the 17th General Practice Awards.
The shortlist includes teams and individuals who are leading the way in improving clinical services, patient outcomes and access to nursing care.
The GP Awards 2025 will take place on 5 December 2025 at the Novotel London West in Hammersmith.
The nursing finalists for 2025 are:
- Anna Parker, practice nurse at Rosmellyn Surgery in Penzance, who took on additional responsibilities during a period of sickness and pregnancy, including supporting patients with complex respiratory needs.
- The Bosvena Health nursing team in Cornwall, who redesigned the practice pathway for dressings to improve wound healing time and reduce workload, freeing up time for other appointments.
- Dr Jennifer Loke, nurse consultant at Park View Surgery, East Riding of Yorkshire, who has been nominated for her passion for patient care and staff wellbeing, and consistent efforts to identify and address gaps in care provision.
- Lucinda Longwill, lead practice nurse at Tower Hamlets Community Educator Provider Network in London, who transformed asthma care within her practice to reduce the carbon footprint of asthma prescribing and decrease the number of short acting beta agonist inhalers prescribed.
- The Newton and Haydock PCN frailty team in St Helens developed an innovative primary care frailty team that is embedded in local GP practices by improving care for older people after hospital discharge and supporting plans for their future care needs.
- Nicky Trenaman, nurse practitioner and home visiting team lead at St Thomas Medical Group, Exeter, who successfully set up an effective home visit team to visit care homes and housebound patients in the community, which has reduced the need for acute visits.
- The Willows Health wound care nursing team who transformed their approach to wound management across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland with a specialist nurse-led service. They have improved wound care outcomes and reduced GP workload.
The General Practice Awards – organised by Nursing in Practice’s publisher Cogora and supported by sister titles including Pulse, The Pharmacist and Management in Practice – are a celebration of excellence and expertise in primary care across the UK.
The range of awards to be presented also includes those for workforce wellbeing, clinical improvement in long term conditions and in public health & prevention, and the General Practice Team of the Year and PCN of the Year, as well as accolades for excellence in sustainability in practice, advancing health equality and digital innovation.
In the 2024 GP Awards, the Brownlow Health Central team in Liverpool was named Nursing Team of the Year. They developed a range of specialist roles, including dedicated diabetes and respiratory specialist nurses and establishing homeless in-reach and mental health practitioner roles to meet the unique healthcare needs of the city.
December’s black-tie awards ceremony for the GP Awards 2025 will bring together finalists for an evening of recognition and celebration.
