Nurses could be allowed to pay their annual registration fee in instalments, a new consultation proposed.
Currently, the fee must be paid in a single instalment of £100, payable by a set date. But previous research has found “frustration” at being unable to pay registration fees in instalments.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is current seeking views on the proposed changes.
Chief executive and registrar of the NMC, Jackie Smith, said: “We are determined to introduce the ability to pay the registration fee in instalments as soon as we can, making it easier and less burdensome for nurses and midwives.
“A fully functioning system of paying registration fees in instalments, for all nurses and midwives, will be in place from 2016.”
The consultation document is available to take part in online.
