Pay, conditions and the workforce pressures facing primary care and community nurses will be under the spotlight when Professor Nicola Ranger, general secretary and chief executive of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), addresses Nursing in Practice London this spring.

Professor Ranger’s keynote speech is set to be one of the highlights of the free-to-attend event at London’s Business Design Centre on Thursday 30 April.

With pay for general practice nurses one of the biggest talking points in the profession – and also currently the subject of a Nursing in Practice survey (open now until 9am 2 March, with the chance to win £200), Professor Ranger will outline how the RCN is advocating for recognition, funding and policy change for the profession.

The changing scope of practice, expanded roles and leadership opportunities will also be under discussion, as well as the clinical importance of primary care and community nurses in delivering NHS priorities.

As well as Professor Ranger’s keynote address, titled The future of primary care and community nursing, the event’s packed schedule will feature sessions on hot topics such as chickenpox vaccination, the menopause, inhaler technique and optimisation, and diabetes medication.

Registration for the event is open now, offering the opportunity to earn up to five CPD hours of expert learning.

Professionals in attendance will also benefit from the chance to network with hundreds of their peers, and keep fully up to date with the current shift that is increasingly taking care out of hospitals and into the community.
